The Chronicles of Narnia is a series that's always been close to me; the seven volumes were some of the first books I read as a very young child that absolutely absorbed my imagination to the point of obsession. It's an experience I fondly remember since the world of Narnia and its inhabitants were so richly detailed and fully realized I genuinely wanted to escape into it; I desperately craved for C.S. Lewis' alternate fantasy world to become manifest in my own real life. Alas, after years of searching, I never found a closet with a portal in place of a boring wooden backboard, and have since been forced to gnaw on the harsh reality that no such fantasy world exists. Developed by Traveller's Tales, the game version of the upcoming film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe gives players and fans alike the chance to prolong or revive that hope of escape, or for those unacquainted with the series, kindle the first sparks of affection for such a great story.

Whew, sorry for the gushing. The game itself follows the group of heroes Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy as they do battle against the White Witch and her minions to lift the perpetual deep freeze that has overtaken the land of Narnia. To do so, players will be able to control each of the four characters as they travel around together through the game's levels, all with their own unique, upgradeable skills.

We played through a number of the game's levels in an early, unfinished build. Through each level you can collect coins that are scattered all over the place and often inside of furniture or other environmental obstacles. The coins are used, once enough are collected, to buy new skills for your characters and upgrade current ones. For instance, from the menu screen players can purchase the Brave Heart ability which increases the maximum health of every character.
